sneaker wave magazine is a nonprofit organization, 501(c)(3), that provides an online platform for compelling true stories. We publish an issue every Sunday morning, and each issue features the work of one writer, one voice, one story from real life. sneaker wave magazine exists to elevate the work of nonfiction writers and to connect people through the power of storytelling.


Our Editorial Team:

Mike Magnuson (Editor in Chief) has been teaching writing and coaching writers through the publication process for more than thirty years. His books include The Right Man for the Job, The Fire Gospels, Lummox, Heft on Wheels, and Bike Tribes. And his shorter work has appeared in Esquire, Bicycling, Popular Mechanics, Backpacker, the Massachusetts Review, and elsewhere. He lives on the north shore of Wisconsin’s Lake Winnebago and has been a faculty member of Pacific University’s Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing for a long time.

McKenzie Watson-Fore (Executive Editor) is a writer, editor, and artist currently based in her hometown of Boulder, Colorado, where she runs the Thunderdome Conference. She holds an MFA from Pacific University and is the inaugural critic-in-residence for MAYDAY magazine. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in Full Stop, Write or Die, the Offing, Colorado Review, and elsewhere. Her writing has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, Best American Essays, and Best of the Net. When she's not at the desk, McKenzie can be found dancing Argentine tango, drinking tea on her back porch, or at MWatsonFore.com.

Angela Wang (Managing Editor) loves reading new work and the editing process where she has the privilege of working with writers to help make their real life, true stories shine. She holds a BA from the University of Washington and a MA from Yale University. After toiling away at various investment banks in Hong Kong for years, Angela returned to Seattle and earned her MFA in Writing from Pacific University where she was awarded the Kwame Dawes Mapmakers Scholarship. Her work can be found in Stratus: Journal of Arts & Writing and elsewhere and her writing has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Angela is currently working on a book about family history and graveyards. She lives with her family in Seattle, Washington.

Julie Levine (Editor at Large) believes that compelling true stories can bring people together in really beautiful ways. She started her career on the business side of book publishing and later moved to the creative side. She holds both a BA and MA in American Literature from New York University and completed an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Pacific University in June 2023. Her work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
