I am five times a father, so all I have seen is the deliveries. But from that experience I can sure say they don’t call it labor for nothing… and that’s for normal gestation, delivery, and aftermath. Your ordeal beggars imagination. So happy you pulled through snd wrote so compelling a piece. Now tell me where that doc is so I can go tell him he’ll rot in hell!
Your portrayal of mortal pain, of "failing to keep up with that it's losing," is stunning. That line echoes for me across contexts, and makes me think also of writing--yours--as a way to get some of what was lost-- was taken--back; a bleeding in reverse that says not just 'this woman is alive/survived' but 'this woman was watching, paying attention. This woman is a writer." I'm so sorry this happened. And I'm so glad you wrote this beautiful, powerful, testament of the truth.
Wow! Terrifying and gripping. I’m glad you survived him and your pregnancy. And I like your writing.
thank you so much for reading. I would like to clarify that my doctor was a woman. but still, either way, all the same.

Beyond brilliant. I got swept up in this and it would not let me go—still hasn’t let me go.

I wondered…. But she seemed to behave in such a masculine way! Wrenching essay!
