sneaker wave by the numbers
by The Editors
Dear sneaker wave readers,
The new calendar year has started and we wanted to give you a sneaker wave By-the-Numbers Roundup! We’ll be back in your inboxes next Sunday, January 18th (and every Sunday after that) with another true story from a fresh, original voice.
Over the past sixteen months, we have:
Published fifty-nine original stories from fifty-five distinctive writers
Been featured in Memoir Land’s Memoir Monday Roundup thirty-one times
Been named in the Notable section of Best American Essays
Paid twenty-two writers for their contributions to the magazine
Reprinted eight original stories from the archives via our Swells vertical
Spent hundreds of hours in team meetings over Google video
Opened for three different reading periods (one of which is open now!)
Launched one online craft course (with more to come!)
PHEW, that’s been a lot!
What the numbers don’t capture is how much love and labor we have poured into sneaker wave magazine. We do all of this (and more) in order to elevate the work of nonfiction writers and connect people through the power of storytelling. If this is a mission that you share, we’d love for you to join our community and support sneaker wave magazine.
How can you support, you might ask—Let us count the ways! (Four: As of this week, there are four main ways you can support sneaker wave magazine.)
One: Join us for our first-ever digital course (live over video!) on February 25!
Two: Send us a story, either via our regular submissions window (open through March 15) or receive developmental edits from one or three of our editors.
Three: Sign up as a paying subscriber. We’re committed to remaining paywall-free, but paying subscribers make it possible for us to pay writers for their work. All founding members also receive a limited edition sneaker wave t-shirt.
Four: Share the word! We are publishing great stories and our audience is ever-growing. If you enjoy what you read at sneaker wave, leave a comment or share one (or more!) of your favorite stories.
Thank you, as always, for reading,
The Editors
