I love the way the narrator likens living in today's political climate to skiing in a whiteout. Overwhelming, disorienting, and difficult to assess what's ahead. Phew.

You built tension so well I was expecting something personally scarier for your child. Instead, like your daughter, you have given me a vision of resilience at this challenging political inflection point. Thank you. Keep writing, living and teaching resilience.

I found this piece both extremely well written and deeply concerning. I believe you were aware of how risky this situation was as shown by how scary your descriptions made even the first comment note. Your family dodged a a bullet here.

I question how age appropriate it is to foist a parent’s concerns about an uncertain future upon a 7 year old who has no conception of how government works instead of addressing how you as a parent were assessing a very present extremely risky by your own assessment situation

I have a major concern as a child deveopment specialist in how the daughter’s own self perception of her fatigue and emotional needs ( after 3 long days of ski lessons) is dismissed. Dismissed in favor of what even the experienced adults noted as seriously foul weather.

I believe a plesant calm review with your daughter about the difference between resiliencey and risk, should follow your own evaluation of your needs to “ educate” when health and safety are in play.

You are lucky the gods who watch over children gave you a second chance.

We publish true stories in sneaker wave magazine, which means whatever happens in the story has happened already and can't be undone. We love "7th Heaven Express," as we love all of the stories we publish, for the honesty to lay out a situation and a story and not second-guess the judgement that may come from readers.
